Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, welcomes the European Union’s sixth package of Russian sanctions, but he chastises the EU for its tardiness.

European leaders reached a fresh agreement on banning Russian oil imports, in which they will “essentially cut roughly 90% of Russian oil imports to the EU by the end of the year.”

Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, will be shut off from SWIFT, the global system for financial transfers, as part of the EU’s sixth round of sanctions since the invasion of Ukraine.

Zelensky said, “When over 50 days have passed between the 5th and 6th sanction packages, the situation is not acceptable for us.”
