US embassy to return to Kyiv by the end of May

The charge d’affaires, Kristina Kvien, said in a news conference on Monday that the US embassy in Ukraine intends to return to Kyiv by the end of May if conditions allow.

“We are quite hopeful that the circumstances will allow us to return to Kyiv by the end of the month,” Kvien said.

“We pay attention to the security specialists, and when they say we may return, we will,” she continued.

On February 14, just 10 days before Russia invaded Ukraine, the US decided to close the US Embassy in Kyiv.

It temporarily shifted a small number of surviving diplomatic workers to Lviv.
