In Germany, an 8-year-old boy was discovered alive after spending more than a week in a sewer.
The boy, identified only as Joe, reportedly vanished on June 17 from his family’s garden in Oldenburg, Germany, prompting a massive police hunt.
Saturday morning, June 25th, he was discovered when a passerby heard a faint whimpering sound emanating from a manhole cover.
The incident concluded with the 8-year-old being rescued and transported to the hospital, where he is currently recuperating.
The boy entered the sewer on the day he went missing, according to the police, who have ruled out any foul play.
Ten minutes after being notified of the whispering sound, the fire department and an emergency physician arrived on the site.
According to reports, a manhole cover was removed from the road leading to the storm drain sewer.
A firefighter then descended and extracted the youngster from the sewer, which was approximately 300 metres from his home.
As per the news source, Police Chief Johann Kuehme stated: “Thanks to a tip from the public, we were able to find Joe in a sewer system today.
The most important thing is that he is alive and was immediately taken to a hospital where he is in good hands. We can all breathe a sigh of relief.”
Separately, police spokesman Stephan Klatte reported that the youngster was hypothermic but alert. He had no serious injuries and his life was not in danger.
Police are currently investigating how the 8-year-old, who apparently has a mild mental development issue, was able to survive for so long in the storm drain.
The child crawled into the sewer and “lost his bearings,” according to cops.
