Before the European Council conference, which will decide whether to award Ukraine candidate status, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba spoke with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. This was Kuleba’s tweet.
“I spoke with Josep Borrell in the run-up to the historic EU summit this week. Ukraine’s EU candidate status will draw a line under decades of ambiguity and set it in stone: Ukraine is Europe, not part of the ‘Russian world’. Grateful to HR/VP for supporting Ukraine on our path,” Kuleba said.
The European Commission proposed that the first two nations be given candidate status in a report on Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia’s applications for EU membership. At its summit on June 23–24, the European Council is anticipated to discuss the matter and reach a conclusion.
