Russian President Vladimir Putin told French President Emmanuel Macron that he would rather play “ice hockey” than hold talks with US President Joe Biden about preventing conflict in Ukraine, according to a report in an international news agency.

The discovery occurred barely four days before the Russian invasion, according to the outlet.

In February, Mr Putin and Mr Macron engaged in a nine-minute chat during which the disparaging remarks were made.

As per reports, the facts of this chat will be exposed in a programme airing Thursday on France 2, the primary state television network.

Mr Macron concluded the call by suggesting a last-minute summit with the U.S. president to Mr Putin.

According to the reports, while the Russian president was not opposed to the concept, he did not look keen on setting a date.

In a phone chat, he was quoted as saying, “To be completely honest, I wanted to play ice hockey.”

“Here I am talking to you from the sports hall before starting the physical exertion. But first I will talk with my advisors,” Mr Putin said,

According to reports, the Russian leader also criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of doing “nothing” to implement the Minsk accords.

The documentary will also show a second conversation between the Russian President and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

In the midst of the current conflict, Mr Putin threatened Finland and Sweden on Wednesday that if they accept NATO troops and military facilities on their territory, Russia will respond.
