Rebel raid has killed over 18 civilians, in eastern DR Congo

• ADF killed around 1,300 people, between January 2021 and January 2022.
• Suspected militias massacred at least 18 people in a hamlet attack in eastern DRC on Sunday night.
• While fighting with the M23 rebel group restarted in a neighbouring province.

According to a witness, a local chief, and a local human rights organisation, fighters thought to be from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) slaughtered inhabitants and burned down houses in the village of Otomabere in Irumu region, Ituri province.

Jules Ngongo, a spokesman for the DRC army, acknowledged the ADF attack but did not provide a dead toll, saying Congolese soldiers were pursuing the attackers.
