- Both judges voted to overturn the landmark decision by the US Supreme Court.
- Manchin was a sole Democrat to support Kavanaugh in the 2018 confirmation battle.
Both Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch voted to overturn Roe vs Wade, and on Friday, two Republican senators from the United States, Susan Collins and Joe Manchin, stated they were misled by the two judges during their Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
Collins, a Republican from Maine, referred to the Supreme Court’s decision as “ill-considered” and added that the “decision is inconsistent with what Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh said in their testimony and in their meetings with me, where they both emphasized the importance of supporting long-standing precedents upon which the nation has relied”.

Separately, West Virginia Democrat and conservative Joe Manchin expressed “great disappointment” with the decision.
“I trusted Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh when they testified under oath that they also believed Roe v Wade was settled legal precedent and I am alarmed they chose to reject the stability the ruling has provided for two generations of Americans”.

Manchin was a sole Democrat to support Kavanaugh in the 2018 confirmation battle. In 2017, he was one of just four Democratic senators to not filibuster Gorsuch’s appointment.
