According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff and the United States; the allies’ live-fire exercise involved eight Army Tactical Missile System missiles — one American and seven South Korean — that were fired into South Korea’s eastern waters over a 10-minute period following notifications for air and maritime safety. According to the South Korean military, the tit-for-tat missile launches were intended to demonstrate the country’s capacity to reply quickly and accurately to North Korean attacks.
