6 January committee members expect texts by Tuesday
Two members of the 6 January committee investigating the Capitol rebellion said Sunday they anticipated getting text messages from the US Secret Service on Tuesday. The subpoena was issued last week.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a California Democrat, told ABC, “We expect them Tuesday.” No more was said. We need Jan. 5 and 6 texts. Illinois Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger stated Sunday the Secret Service will comply by Tuesday.
The select committee is focusing on deleted Secret Service text messages sent on January 5 and 6, 2021.
This is the first time the panel has publicly requested phone records from an executive branch agency.
Kinzinger said the committee will demonstrate Trump “gladly” watched TV and “did nothing” while protestors invaded the Capitol at the next session.
He said the panel will reveal what Trump did in the 187 minutes from when the throng broke into the Capitol and when he requested them to leave.
“The President didn’t do anything, and we’ll fill in the blanks,” Kinzinger said. “Our presentation will open people’s eyes.”
Both congressmen acknowledged more hearings could happen and that the select committee however not done yet.
“When the report comes out, we may have one or two hearings,” Kinzinger said. As with Cassidy Hutchinson, if we get information the public needs to know, we may call for more hearings.
Even though this is the last hearing, Luria remarked, “You will hear from the committee again.”
“Whether through hearings or other means to convey the facts, we have a responsibility to present what we’ve uncovered, and we’re discussing the best way after this hearing,” she said.
