Shooting attack in Jerusalem
Early on Sunday morning, a bus was the target of a gun incident in Jerusalem’s Old City that injured at least eight individuals, five of whom were Americans.
According to a statement from the police, a “terrorist equipped with firearms shot at a bus and vehicles in a parking area in the Old City of Jerusalem” around 1:30 am local time on Sunday (6:30 pm ET).
According to the hospitals, two Americans are being treated at Hadassah Medical Center and three at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. At least two of the injured Americans were tourists, according to the hospitals. Four American deaths were visitors and members of the same family, according to prior reports in Israeli media.
According to emergency personnel, two of the casualties are described as having significant injuries, while the remaining six victims have minor and moderate wounds. A cesarean section was performed in an emergency because one of the injured was pregnant. According to the Shaare Zedek hospital, the mother and the infant are both in critical condition.
The attack has left the US Embassy in Jerusalem “shocked and saddened,” they said. They acknowledged that victims included people from the US and said they were gathering further data.
An embassy official issued a statement that read, “We strongly condemn all acts of terrorism and actions that increase tensions.”
The statement read, “We wish all of the victims a swift and complete recovery. Our prayers are with their loved ones.”
