Elizabeth Holmes bought a one-way ticket to Mexico to flee.

Holmes, 38, was convicted of three wire fraud and one conspiracy charges in January 2022. She was charged with 11 counts of fraud for fabricating Theranos blood test results. Holmes got 11 years in November.

According to various publications, prosecutors say she should go to prison now since she is a flight risk and made “an attempt to depart the nation” last year.

Prosecutors claim that Holmes booked an international ticket to Mexico on January 23, 2022, without a return flight. “Defense counsel cancelled the trip only after the government mentioned this unauthorized flying.”

In court records, prosecutors expect Holmes to “respond that she did not in fact depart the country as arranged,” but “it is difficult to tell with confidence” if she would have left without government intervention.

She “has the means to act on that urge” and “the incentive to run has never been higher.”

Holmes’ lawyers claimed in an email that she booked the travel before her conviction and planned to attend a friend’s wedding in Mexico if acquitted.

Holmes occupies a $13,000-per-month estate.
The New York Times reported last year that Holmes is pregnant with her second child.

Before her criminal trial, Holmes had her first child in August 2021.

According to Holmes and Billy Evans welcomed William Holmes Evans on July 10 in Redwood City, California.

Theranos, founded by Holmes in 2014, defrauded investors by claiming their technology could run hundreds of medical tests with just a few droplets of blood.

In 2015, John Carreyrou stated that Holmes’ machine, The Edison, did not work and that the company was leveraging outside technology and other methods to falsify positive test results. In 2018, federal authorities indicted Holmes.

Holmes’ defense attorneys claimed she was naïve and didn’t intend to scam investors. Kevin Downey, Holmes’ attorney, told jurors that Holmes never cashed out any shares.

Holmes testified in her own defense that she was abused by her ex-boyfriend and co-defendant Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, clouding her judgement at the time.

July saw 12 fraud convictions for Balwani. November saw his 13-year sentence.
