The collapse took place in the Yuecheng Gym Stadium in Jiamusi City, and authorities have detained a person in charge of the gym.

This incident has drawn comparisons to a previous gymnasium collapse in the province that claimed 11 lives in July. Concerned citizens are calling for answers and increased inspections of large public facilities in the region.

Heilongjiang has been grappling with severe weather, including blizzards and unseasonably cold conditions, leading to school closures and transportation disruptions.
