Israel-Hamas War: Protesters Halt US Military Ship Bound for Israel
Amidst overcast skies and persistent rain, a large gathering of pro-Palestinian protesters assembled at the Port of Tacoma, located in Washington state.
Their objective was to obstruct a military supply vessel that, in their view, was intended to transport weapons from the United States to Israel.
Their concerns centered on the potential use of the onboard weaponry in Israel’s ongoing operations in the Gaza Strip, where the death toll has exceeded 10,000 Palestinians.
“We want a ceasefire now. We want people to stop getting murdered now. We want a real examination and action on US foreign policy and US funding to Israel,” said Wassim Hage, one of the protesters at the Tacoma rally.
Hage holds the position of a case manager and community outreach coordinator at the Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC), the organization responsible for coordinating the protests.
He explained that AROC received information from a confidential source indicating that the ship would be carrying weapons and military gear destined for Israel, while the Israeli military was engaged in its operations in Gaza.
In response to an inquiry from the publication, Jeff Jurgensen, a spokesperson for the Pentagon, confirmed that the vessel was employed to facilitate the transport of US military cargo.
But he declined to offer further information. “Due to operational security, the [US Department of Defense] does not provide further transportation, movement details or information regarding the cargo embarked on these vessels,” he wrote.
