Two far-right terror suspects being held in Belgium
Belgium’s anti-terrorism police have apprehended two individuals suspected of belonging to a far-right group and planning bomb attacks, as well as inciting violence.
The arrests followed raids in Diepenbeek and Ostend, where one of the houses contained a significant amount of Nazi memorabilia and flags.
The allegations against the pair include recruiting individuals for terrorist activities and preparing for terrorist acts. The operation, part of a Europe-wide effort against right-wing terrorism, involved raids in Croatia, Germany, Lithuania, Romania, and Italy.
A total of five people were detained, with seven others questioned across the various countries, according to Europol, the EU’s crime agency.
The two individuals taken into custody in Belgium are identified as Daan C and Kayley W, born in 2000 and 2002, respectively. Daan C, suspected of being a leader, was arrested pending further investigation, while Kayley W was released after questioning.
The suspects are believed to have been active on encrypted extreme-right platforms, encouraging terrorist acts, recruiting members, and sharing information on 3D-printed firearms.
They were found in possession of materials for making homemade bombs and petrol bombs. According to Europol, there were indications of an increased risk of imminent action despite their young age.
