US Homeless Man Arrested for Fatal Attack on Indian Student

In a tragic incident that has shocked the Indian community in Georgia, United States, a homeless man has been arrested for the fatal attack on a 25-year-old Indian student, Vivek Saini. The assailant, identified as Julian Faulkner, 53, had reportedly been receiving food and shelter from the victim before the brutal assault.

According to local media reports citing the police, security camera footage captured the horrifying moment when Saini was repeatedly beaten with a hammer by Faulkner at a Chevron Food Mart. Employees at the store revealed that they had been allowing Faulkner to come in and out for nearly two days, providing him with various items, including coke, chips, and water. Despite his continuous presence in the store, employees had not asked him to leave due to the cold weather.

The tragic incident unfolded on January 16, just after midnight, when Saini, who had moved to the US from India’s Haryana two years ago, asked Faulkner to leave the store or face a call to the police. In response, Faulkner launched a brutal attack on the Indian student, hitting him multiple times on the face and head.

“He hit him from the back then he kept on hitting for almost 50 times on the face on the head,” revealed an unidentified employee who witnessed the incident.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police found Faulkner standing over Saini’s lifeless body. Despite immediate medical attention, Saini was pronounced dead at the scene. Faulkner was promptly arrested and remains in DeKalb County Jail, facing charges of felony murder and interference with government property.

During the arrest, officers discovered two knives and another hammer in Faulkner’s possession, adding further concerns to the investigation. The Consulate General of India in Atlanta has condemned the attack in the “strongest terms” and is in touch with the victim’s family as the investigation continues. The incident has garnered widespread attention in India, highlighting the vulnerability of those experiencing homelessness and the importance of community awareness and support.
