Dubai Ramadan: working hours change, free parking and more
Ramadan is anticipated to begin on Tuesday, March 12. As Ramadan approaches each year, many of us find ourselves with a multitude of inquiries regarding the latest rules and regulations implemented during this sacred period. Whether it’s your inaugural Ramadan experience in Dubai or you’re a seasoned participant, rest assured, here’s a comprehensive guide encompassing everything you need to know about Ramadan in Dubai.
Working hours to change
Although there is no official confirmation yet, it’s customary for both fasting and non-fasting employees in Dubai to experience reduced working hours during Ramadan.
The UAE government usually announces the adjusted working hours for both the private and public sectors. Government offices also tend to close early during this time.
Typically, both private and public sector employees receive a two-hour reduction in their regular working hours.
School timings
This year, due to the spring break holidays falling on March 25, children in school will only have an overlap of about 15 days where they will have reduced school hours. The students’ hours are usually cut down to five hours a day.
Eating and drinking in public
In the past, there were strict requirements for eating and drinking in public. However, in the last few years, most restaurants have been running business as usual.
So we can expect that there won’t be any regulations or requirements for non-muslims, but you may choose to be respectful towards those fasting. Restaurants in Dubai also often have incredible suhoor and iftar menus with great deals.
Parking
During Ramadan in Dubai, there is usually a change in the paid parking hours. Typically, we observe a shift in the paid parking schedule.
On weekdays and Saturdays, parking is charged from 8 am to 6 pm and then from 8 pm to midnight. Sundays often have free parking, although certain areas maintain the same fee structure with charges from 8 am to 6 pm.
However, we have not yet received confirmation regarding whether the timings will remain unchanged this year.
