As the 2024 Ramadan Calendar in the USA ushered in the sacred month, a distinctive gathering took place in New York City’s Times Square. Scores of Muslim worshippers congregated to commemorate the commencement of Ramadan, performing Taraweeh, the special night prayers of the holy month, under the illumination of the famous LED billboards.

Despite the chilly, blustery conditions, the number of devout attendees surpassed a hundred. The atmosphere was filled with the harmonious recitation of Nasheeds and the Qur’an by children. Copies of the Qur’an were distributed to both Muslims and interested onlookers.

During Ramadan, devout Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to dusk, assembling with loved ones to break the fast in the evening. It is also a month dedicated to prayers, with Muslims traditionally gathering in large numbers at mosques, particularly at night.
