Manila welcomes UAE’s chief envoy with Philippine President
On Tuesday, UAE Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and other senior Emirati officials met with Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at Malacanan Palace in Manila.
During their meeting, which was part of Sheikh Abdullah’s working visit to Southeast Asian nations, the two officials exchanged wishes for the continued prosperity of their countries.
Marcos and Sheikh Abdullah also discussed bilateral relations and explored avenues to enhance cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, as both countries anticipate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties.
As of the last estimate, the UAE hosts the largest overseas Filipino community, with about 1 million expatriates, and this number is expected to further increase as the Gulf country plans to employ more qualified Filipino healthcare professionals through a government-to-government hiring system.
Sheikh Abdullah expressed his appreciation for the role of the Filipino community in supporting the UAE’s development plans across various sectors.
The meeting included Mohammed Obaid Al-Qataam Al-Zaabi, the UAE ambassador to the Philippines, and Saeed Mubarak Al-Hajri, assistant minister for economic and trade affairs.
