Saudi Arabia reaffirms commitment to Palestinian rights at Arab League Summit
Saudi Arabia has reiterated its strong opposition to violations of Palestinian rights, with Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan reaffirming the Kingdom’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause during the Arab League Summit in Cairo.
At the extraordinary summit held on Tuesday to counter US President Donald Trump’s controversial Gaza reconstruction proposal, Prince Faisal condemned the displacement of Palestinians, illegal settlements, and the annexation of Palestinian land.
He called for a united international effort to rebuild Gaza, which has suffered extensive devastation, emphasizing the need for urgent humanitarian intervention.
“The immense suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza demands an immediate and collective response to restore normalcy, rebuild infrastructure, and protect their rights without any attempts to alter demographic or territorial realities,” he stated.
The Saudi foreign minister expressed optimism that the summit would lead to meaningful actions to address the humanitarian crisis and contribute to long-term regional stability. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s backing of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in administering Gaza and delivering essential aid.
During the summit, Arab leaders endorsed a $53 billion Egyptian-led reconstruction plan for Gaza, firmly rejecting any forced displacement of Palestinians. Unlike Trump’s “Middle East Riviera” proposal, the initiative focuses on restoring infrastructure and public services.
The leaders also agreed to establish a trust fund to accelerate reconstruction efforts, urging international contributions for timely implementation. Additionally, the summit proposed deploying an international peacekeeping force in Palestinian territories to protect civilians and maintain stability.
In a collective statement, the summit condemned Israel’s recent blockade on humanitarian aid and border crossings, highlighting the necessity of achieving a just and lasting peace that secures Palestinian rights and ensures long-term regional security.
The Arab League’s summit in Cairo marks a crucial moment in regional diplomacy, as Arab nations work to counter alternative reconstruction proposals and safeguard the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.
