Violent confrontations between Bedouin tribes and local fighters in the city of Suwayda, located in southern Syria, have resulted in more than 30 fatalities and injured around 100 individuals, according to the Syrian Ministry of Interior.

In a statement issued late Sunday, the ministry expressed profound concern and sadness over the recent “violent incidents” involving “armed groups and tribal factions” in the Maqwas neighborhood of eastern Suwayda.

The ministry announced that security forces, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, will intervene directly to address the situation. Their objectives include ending the clashes, restoring stability, bringing those responsible to justice, and ensuring security in the area.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Monday that the death toll has risen to at least 37, with 27 of the victims being members of the Druze community, including two children.

“There is no solution to this except imposing security [measures] and activating the role of institutions to ensure civil peace and the return of life to its normal state in all its details,” Interior Minister Anas Khattab said in a post on X.
