The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has donated $1 million to support Pakistan in dealing with the ongoing monsoon floods. The money will be given through the World Health Organization (WHO) to boost emergency response and preparedness across the country.

According to the WHO, the aid will focus on 33 high-risk districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan. It is expected to cover urgent health needs for more than 465,000 people.

The donation will also help national and provincial authorities keep essential health services running in flood-hit areas, where access to hospitals and clinics has been badly affected.

Pakistan is currently facing one of the worst flood emergencies in recent years. Torrential monsoon rains have flooded villages, destroyed homes, and damaged thousands of acres of farmland. Rivers like the Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab have swelled to dangerous levels, displacing thousands of families and cutting off many communities.

The government has declared emergencies in several districts, while the army is carrying out rescue and relief operations. Along with the destruction, health concerns such as waterborne diseases are spreading, making international support like this donation even more important.
