Israeli Army Chief approves plan for full Gaza takeover despite Netanyahu’s opposition
The Israeli Army Chief has approved a plan for the complete takeover of Gaza, confirming the operational framework during a meeting with the General Staff Forum, internal security agencies, and senior commanders on Wednesday.
This decision comes despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s strong opposition to the plan. Earlier, the Army Chief, the head of Mossad, and the National Security Adviser had all rejected Netanyahu’s own proposal for military control over Gaza.
The timing of the approval is notable, as it coincides with a Hamas delegation’s arrival in Cairo for initial talks with Egypt on a temporary ceasefire. These discussions are considered crucial given the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and mounting international pressure for peace.
The move signals a new military push by Israel even as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict gain momentum.
