Donald Trump and Xi Jinping hold phone call to discuss trade and global issues
Donald Trump and Xi Jinping held a phone conversation to discuss trade and bilateral relations, according to Chinese media.
Trump said the call with Xi was productive and confirmed they will meet during the APEC Summit in South Korea. He also announced that he plans to visit China early next year, while Xi is expected to visit the United States at a suitable time.
The two leaders also discussed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Trump said the war must end soon, while Xi emphasized that China values its relationship with the United States and wants constructive talks.
Trump mentioned progress on the approval of the TikTok deal and said he was happy about it. He plans to speak with Xi again soon.
Xi stressed that China’s position on TikTok is clear and that companies should negotiate based on market rules. He said the solution must follow Chinese laws and protect national interests.
Xi added that the U.S. should not interfere in trade talks and that strong China-U.S. trade ties will benefit the global economy. He also said China will never forget U.S. support during the Second World War.
