Trump urges Türkiye to stop buying Oil from Russia, hints at Gaza Ceasefire
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said he wishes Türkiye would stop buying oil from Russia, while also expressing hope that a Gaza ceasefire is close.
Speaking to the media after meeting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Trump praised Erdoğan as a “respected world leader.” Erdoğan received a warm welcome on his arrival in Washington.
Trump said that Türkiye has built a strong army that makes wide use of American-made equipment. He confirmed that Ankara wants to buy F-35 and F-16 fighter jets, and talks on this issue are ongoing. Trump added that if the discussions go well, the US could lift sanctions on Türkiye immediately.
The US president also repeated his claim that he had stopped seven wars during his leadership. He stressed that Washington is working to bring back Israeli hostages from Gaza and that peace efforts are moving forward.
