The cause of the fire that killed newborns at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad has emerged.
Reports say the fire in the nursery started because of a short circuit in an incubator and then spread to other incubators in the room.
The gas cylinders for all the incubators were interconnected, which allowed the fire to spread from one incubator to another, reports said.

According to reports, the baby girl inside the incubator where the fire started survived, while the other newborns in the remaining incubators lost their lives.
A heartbreaking tragedy struck early Wednesday morning, Aug. 26, when at least 15 newborns died at the nursery of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. Sixteen babies were reportedly being treated in the nursery at the time of the incident.
The fire broke out at about 6:45 a.m. in the gynaecology ward’s nursery, according to rescue officials. The sudden blaze quickly spread through the area, prompting emergency teams to rush to the hospital and begin rescue operations.
