ISLAMABAD: Muslims across Pakistan are observing Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) today, Aug. 26, 2026, with prayers, processions and special gatherings to honor the birth and life of Prophet Muhammad(SAW).
The occasion is being marked nationwide through religious programs, charity and public events as people reflect on his teachings of faith, mercy, justice and compassion.
The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in the provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered after Fajr for the unity of the Muslim Ummah and the peace, progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
The federal government declared Aug. 26 a public holiday for 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal,1448 AH. The Sindh government is also observing a public holiday.
Across the country, streets, roads, mosques, homes and public buildings have been decorated with green flags, buntings and colorful lights. Meanwhile, Milad processions are being held in major cities.
Religious groups, Milad committees, community organizations and government bodies are arranging gatherings and conferences. Religious scholars and speakers are discussing the life and teachings of last Prophet Muhammad (SAW). They are also encouraging people to follow his Sunnah and promote peace, tolerance and respect.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Pakistanis and Muslims around the world on Eid Milad-un-Nabi.
In separate messages, both leaders urged young people to learn from the Seerat of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). They emphasized strong character, hard work, service to humanity and respect for others.
Zardari said the Prophet brought a message of faith, justice, mercy and noble character. He also stressed the importance of tolerance, interfaith and inter-sectarian harmony, justice and human dignity.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan can address its economic, social and moral challenges by following Islamic principles. He urged the younger generation to help build a strong, peaceful, prosperous and welfare-oriented Pakistan.
An International Seerat-un-Nabi Conference is also being held in Islamabad under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.
This year’s conference focuses on protecting, developing and building the character of young people in light of the Prophet’s teachings.
The participants are presenting research and practical recommendations on applying the Prophet’s teachings to modern challenges.
The National Assembly also called for nationwide programs to mark the occasion and urged institutions to promote peace, tolerance and brotherhood.
For Muslims in Pakistan and around the world, the day is a time for prayer, charity, reflection and remembrance of the Prophet’s life and teachings.
