KARACHI: The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has made a critical breakthrough in resolving its financial challenges by successfully opening a new official bank account. This move is expected to lead to the release of long-pending FIFA funds and restore smooth financial operations.
Under the leadership of PFF President Mohsin Gilani, the federation opened the account at MCB Bank in Lahore. The step follows months of financial stagnation caused by the freezing of the PFF’s previous account due to legal complications, which had cut off essential funding from international bodies.
The new account was approved after receiving formal certification from FIFA. The PFF has since shared the necessary details with the global governing body and now anticipates the disbursement of delayed financial support. This funding is crucial for the PFF’s upcoming projects, grassroots development, and international commitments.
“This is a major step in the right direction,” said a PFF official. “With the new account in place, we’re hopeful that operations will return to normal, and we can once again focus on the growth of football in Pakistan.”
Meanwhile, the PFF is preparing for an important Executive Committee meeting, where a comprehensive 15-point agenda will be discussed. The agenda has already been circulated among committee members and includes significant decisions on future planning and organizational reforms.
Among the key topics are the launch of a franchise football league, the appointment of a new General Secretary, the opening of more bank accounts for operational efficiency, and the approval of the annual budget. Sources indicate that Shahid Khokhar and Col. Hamdani are being considered for the role of General Secretary.
President Gilani is also expected to present updates on recent interactions with FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), in addition to progress on potential collaborations with the football associations of Azerbaijan and China.
Also on the agenda are proposals to unveil a new PFF logo, organize the Pakistan Premier League and Challenge Cup, and form sub-committees to enhance governance and planning.
The activation of the new bank account signals a fresh start for the PFF after months of uncertainty. With FIFA funding likely to resume soon and strategic reforms in progress, the federation is positioning itself to rebuild trust, improve operations, and advance the development of football throughout Pakistan.
