Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met leading figures from Pakistan’s agriculture sector ahead of the federal budget for FY2026-27.
The meeting focused on gathering ideas and recommendations to improve agricultural growth and strengthen the economy.
Representatives from farmers groups, dairy and livestock businesses, seed companies, agricultural industries, and national and international firms attended the consultation. The discussion was part of the government efforts to include stakeholder input in budget planning.
Participants appreciated the Prime Minister efforts to maintain peace during the current regional situation. They also praised the government work to support economic stability across the country.
Stakeholders welcomed the new seed policy and recent agricultural reforms. They described these measures as a major step forward for Pakistan farming sector. Many participants said the reforms could help increase productivity and support long term growth.
Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz said agriculture can play a key role in transforming Pakistan’s economy. He added that a stronger agriculture sector can support recovery, create jobs, and improve exports.
The prime minister said the government is upgrading the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) with support from Chinese agricultural experts. The goal is to promote research, innovation, and modern farming methods.
He stressed the importance of technology in agriculture. He also called for better cooperation between researchers and farmers to improve crop yields and increase competitiveness.
To support future reforms, the Prime Minister ordered the formation of a committee made up of experts and stakeholders from across Pakistan.
The committee will provide recommendations to modernize agriculture, improve policies, and solve challenges faced by farmers and businesses.
Agriculture is expected to remain a major focus because of its importance to employment, exports, and food security.
