Uttar Pradesh: Lightning wreaked havoc in India, killing 116 people and injuring dozens when lightning struck during rains.

According to the details, lightning struck in different states of India, killing one hundred and sixteen people and injuring dozens during the monsoon rains.

A lightning strike in Bihar killed 92 people and 24 in Uttar Pradesh, the Bihar Minister for Disaster Management said.

Sajin Kumar of the Disaster Management Control Room said a total of 92 people had been reported killed in Bihar so far on Friday morning, but could not yet estimate the number of casualties and damage, while the death toll was expected to rise.

In the state of Uttar Pradesh, 24 people were killed and 24 injured due to lightning, said Muhammad Arif, project manager of the relief commissioner’s office.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar termed the loss of life as “regrettable” and announced a compensation of Rs 400,000 to the families of the victims.

A statement issued by the Disaster Management Control Room directed the public to remain vigilant during the current bad weather and follow the advice and instructions issued by the authorities.

The Indian Meteorological Department had forecast thunderstorms in Bihar and other northern and northeastern states on Thursday and the storms are expected to move eastward in the coming days.

In 2018, in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, more than 36,000 lightning strikes were recorded in just 13 hours.
