PM Imran Khan had a meeting with the construction industry to avail the amnesty scheme launched for its benefit before the December 31, 2020 deadline.

According to the details, the scheme having been launched in light of the adverse economic effect of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The news report said that the scheme was initiated to deal with the impacts of coronavirus pandemic.

The sources said that the Prime Minister asked the construction industry to apply the said scheme now, as the country’s obligations to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) would make it impossible to introduce a similar program after the communicated deadline.

PM Imran Khan shared the scheme with the construction industry while addressing to a press conference following the first meeting of the National Coordination Committee on Housing and Construction.

It is to be noted that the scheme was launched in April, when the government had announced an incentive package for the construction industry and real estate that would allow people to invest without disclosing their sources of revenue.

Earlier, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senator Shibli Faraz has said that a committee has been formed at the national level for the promotion of the construction sector headed by Lt. Gen. Anwar Ali Haider.

During a press conference in Islamabad with Lt. Gen. Anwar Ali Haider, chairman of the New Pakistan Housing Scheme, Shibli Faraz said that just as the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) was set up to deal with the coronavirus. A committee has been formed to resolve all the issues of the construction sector.

He said the provision of affordable housing was a major problem for the country as banks generally did not lend much to the construction industry.
