BBC’s World Sport Star:’This Award Means A Lot For Me’ Khabib Says

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has named Russian UFC fighter Khabib Magomedov as ‘World Sports Star of the Year’.

According to the BBC, the 32-year-old set a professional record with 29 wins and defeated interim champion Justin Gaethje of the United States in a memorable match on October 24 this year.

It was a very emotional contest for Khabib as he had to bear the shock of the death of his father and coach due to Coronavirus a few months earlier. That’s why he announced his retirement, declaring it his last fight.

Considered the best player in the history of mixed martial arts, Khabib has competed in 29 events and won all of them.

While reacting to the award Khabib said, “This award means a lot for me. Recognition is one of the biggest motivation in life, as in the sport.”

Earlier, MMA fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov has rejected the concept that he could come back to fighting, just a day after UFC President Dana White said he expects the Russian to unretire sometime in the future and even discussed possible matchups.

Khabib ended his fighting career last month after his win over Justin Gaethje, refining his record to un-beatable 29-0. Still, just 32, the fans, media personnel and UFC officials including White have a guess that he would ultimately have a change of heart.

The former fighter, though, is obstinate that he will stick to his decision.

“I have no plans to continue fighting,” said Khabib in an interview “There will always be rumours about my comeback because Dana White or other promoters who could replace him in the future will always want me to fight.”

“Of course, I am in my prime and there’s still tons of money I could earn, but I had a different goal,” he said. “My goal was to reach the summit and I did it.”
