MOSCOW: At least two persons died and 17 others were injured in a bus explosion in the Russian city of Voronezh in the wee hours of Friday, as per the local media.

The blast occurred when the vehicle with 35 passengers reached a bus stop near a shopping mall.

Among the injured, 13 have been currently hospitalised in a stable condition and four have been receiving outpatient treatment.

An investigation is now underway into the cause of the incident, including the possibility of a gas cylinder blast on the bus, Deputy Governor of the Voronezh Region Vitaly Shabalatov said.

However, city department of transport Deputy Head Maksim Zakharov, said the bus was powered by diesel.

Preliminary data showed that no explosives were found at the incident site, the Interfax news agency reported, citing an expert working at the site.

Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee said it is taking all necessary measures to establish the circumstances of the incident. (Xinhua)
