
The US Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby stated that there had been a blast outside the Kabul airport.
He further added that it is not clear if there were any wounded or dead.
Pentagon will provide further details once they are available, said Kirby.
We can confirm that the explosion near the Abbey Gate of the Kabul airport has resulted in an unknown number of casualties. We will continue to update.

The US and allied officials stated that had inner intelligence reports that suicide bombers were hostile over the attack at the Kabul airport.
The incident occurred when thousands are in the vicinity of the Kabul airport in quest of fleeing Afghanistan.
Whereas the Western countries are ramping up evacuation efforts as the deadline of August 31 approaches.
An official from the White House has stated that US President Joe Biden has been informed of the explosion that occurred at the Kabul airport.
According to the White House source, Biden was attending a meeting with security officials on the current situation in Afghanistan, when the blast was first informed.
Whereas the U.S is in the concluding steps of finishing its 20-year war against terrorism.
The US has been ramping up the evacuation process for its citizens and some Afghan citizens from Kabul before its military is set to fully extract from Afghanistan on August 31.
The White House stated that around 95,700 people from the United States and its alliances have been evacuated since August 14, the day before the Taliban captured Kabul.

On the contrary, Britain’s defense ministry stated its working on an urgent basis to establish what had occurred at Kabul airport following reports of the blast.
“We are working urgently to establish what has happened in Kabul and its impact on the ongoing evacuation effort,” the defense ministry said on Twitter.
“Our primary concern remains the safety of our personnel, British citizens, and the citizens of Afghanistan. We are in close contact with our US and other NATO allies at an operational level on the immediate response to this incident.”
