South Africa lost the ODI series of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League against Sri Lanka by 2-1. With this defeat, the Proteas are now out of the list of direct qualifiers for the event.

Currently, South Africa stands in the ninth spot in the points table for the Super League. They have only won three matches out of nine played.

While Sri Lanka bagged the victory over the visitors winning two matches out of three.

This is the first victory for Sri Lanka in the ODI series during the 19 months. They have gained 10 points after a series win over South Africa.

Sri Lanka has, however, only won four matches out of 15. This could make it difficult to directly qualify for the ICC men’s Cricket World Cup.

During the Super League, the top 13 teams will be playing eight bilateral one-day series before the 2023 World Cup.

This would be followed by India’s direct entry into the World Cup alongside seven other teams, who will host the 2023 World Cup, while secondary qualifiers will have to compete in tournaments to qualify for the WC.
