ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar reviewed the progress of the proposed Slaughterhouse to be set up in Sector I-11/4, Islamabad.

The meeting was informed that the total area of the slaughterhouse is 8,000 square-feet. The indoor coral area would initially process more than 15,000 animals/week. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has appointed consultant Nespak for feasibility study, design estimation with the cost of Rs7 million.

The modern slaughterhouse will have the capacity of 2,000 small animals (goats) and 800 large animals (cows)/day. The slaughterhouse includes major components such as a freezing room, cold storage, deboning area, packing room, dispatch area, animal waiting area, animal checking and inspection area, chilling rooms, administrative rooms, car parking, tube-well and waste treatment area.

In the slaughterhouse the larger animal handling will be 500, the meet production/day from large animal will be 25 tonnes. The small animal handling/day will be 1,800, the meat production/day from small animals will be 11.25 tonnes.

The minister was also informed that the facilities such as grazing areas, provision of water, and other allied facilities for the animals would also be ensured.

It was decided in the meeting that the CDA would provide land for commercial activities to maximise revenue.

Asad Umar said that to provide fresh, quality, and hygienic meat to the residents of Islamabad this slaughterhouse should be equipped with the latest machinery and equipment.

The slaughterhouse is a basic requirement of Islamabad so this project must be completed in line with the modern standards and without any delay.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on CDA Ali Nawaz Awan, MNA Raja Khuram, Public-Private Partnership Authority chief executive officer and other relevant formations were also present on the occasion.
