KARACHI: The present management of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has failed to perform and could not work towards the development of the business community, an official of the United Business Group (UBG) said on Tuesday.
UBG’s chairman for Sindh Region Khalid Tawwab criticised the FPCCI management, saying that the present FPCCI body came to power through rigging and cannot work towards the development of the business community.
Tawwab made these remarks during his visit to the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA), where he was accompanied by the UBG’s nominee for president of FPCCI Nauman Butt and senior vice president nominee Muhammad Hanif Gohar.
KCA chairman Khwaja M Zubair, senior business leaders Sheikh Riyaz Uddin, Ghazanafar Ali Khan, Ahmed Chenoy and Humayun Laiq were also present on the occasion.
The UBG regional chairman said that the FPCCI is a prestigious organisation, which forms policies for a sustainable economy to be presented before the government, and if the organisation is headed by corrupt and incompetent management, it would never be able to work towards the betterment of the organisation.
The UBG, under the supervision of its head S M Muneer, chairman Iftikhar Ali Malik and president Zubair Tufail has started its election campaign across the country.
Nauman Butt said: “We will prove by our performance that UBG is truly representing the business community, adding that in the current circumstances, it is needed to work hard for the betterment of the FPCCI.
Senior vice president nominee Muhammad Hanif Gohar vowed to let FPCCI become a ground for politics, saying that there are many individuals who support different political parties but ultimately they belong to UBG.
UBG will win the election with a heavy mandate, he said and reiterated that it will support the government’s policies for the development of the country.
