According to police, a Rhode Island man killed his girlfriend, covered her body in towels and plastic, and placed her body in his apartment’s refrigerator.

Nathan Cooper, 53, was charged with murder for the death of Sherbert Maddox after police discovered her corpse inside a Providence condominium on Tuesday, according to officials.

According to police, they were called to the flat on a tip and subsequently acquired a search warrant. Authorities said Maddox, 40, seemed to have been fatally shot and might have been deceased for two or more days.

Cops discovered a.38-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol and a rifle suspected to have been used in the killing, according to The Providence Journal. Despite claims that the pair shared the flat where Maddox’s corpse was discovered, family members informed the Journal that the victim did not reside there.

According to the publication, Cooper had past convictions and a history of domestic violence with Maddox.

Maddox’s family members were left reeling from the unexpected death of their loved one.

“My mom contacted me this morning and informed me that her boyfriend murdered her and put her in the fridge like a piece of steak,” cousin Shermaine Johnson told WSAZ-TV.

Sister Nakia Maddox Pigues told WPRI that she believed others were engaged in the attempt to cover up the murder.

“I want the rest of the world to know that justice will be done for my sister,” Maddox Pigues said. “You removed a piece of my family that we will never be able to replace.” “Your day is approaching.”

Cooper did not enter a plea during his Wednesday appearance.
