A talk show presenter alleges she was fired from a Washington, D.C. radio station for mocking Vice President Kamala Harris’s clothing during last month’s State of the Union address.
She also writes for the right-wing journal The Spectator, where she detailed the incident in detail.
Amber Athey, a conservative personality who worked on WMAL’s morning programme, jokingly tweeted about the colour of Harris’ suit.
Kamala looks like a UPS employee — what can brown do for you? Nothing good, apparently.

‘Kamala appears to be a UPS employee — what can brown do for you?’ ‘Apparently nothing good,’ Athey said in a March 1 tweet, referencing to an old UPS catchphrase.
She stated that there was no indication of any offence being caused by the witty remark until a few days later.
Her managers at both the radio station and the magazine received emails requesting that Athey be fired.
While her magazine supervisors laughed it off and erased the emails, elders at the station where she worked part-time for the past seven months were less lenient.
‘I received an unexpected call from Jeff Boden, vice president of Cumulus Washington, D.C., and Kriston Fancellas, vice president of Human Resources.
They said the tweet I posted about Kamala was ‘racist,’ and that following follow-ups defending myself and mocking the efforts to cancel me were improper. They said I had broken the company’s social media policy, and I was fired instantly,’ Athey stated.
‘They did not have the decency to give me the opportunity to explain myself, nor did they consult with anybody at the programme before making their decision.’
Athey says in her column that she is aware with cancel culture, but prefers to refer to it as censorship.
She recalls how, while attending Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., being a conservative on the liberal college campus sometimes resulted in her being reported for ‘creating a hazardous atmosphere.’ Other students urged that the university cancel events she was sponsoring through College Republicans on many occasions.
Some others, she alleges, called for her degree to be cancelled at one time.
Over the past two weeks, I have received a lot of questions about why I haven't been on @WMALDC.
I was not sick or on vacation. @WMALDC @CumulusMedia fired me for making a "racist" joke about Kamala Harris's SOTU outfit. https://t.co/kOV9mTLqIA

Throughout my six years as a political writer and pundit, left-wing activists have used every trick in the book to get me out of the business, including digging up old tweets, degrading my looks, and pressuring my employers. ‘Until now, none of it has worked.’
‘I am sick and tired of conservatives apologising to the left, remaining silent out of fear of destroying bridges, or whining continuously without doing action. We can only beat the left’s bad faith censorship tactics if we fight back.’
Athey says she is the latest victim of a “deceptive slander campaign.”
Athey claims that her pleas have been mostly disregarded since her dismissal from WMAL Radio.
The company’s executives claimed that ‘the appearance of racism was more significant than whether or not my post was genuinely racist,’ and her firing will not be overturned.
‘All I wanted was my job back, but now I feel compelled to speak up about what occurred.’ This event has harmed the credibility and reputation of WMAL and Cumulus as conservative programming providers. We talked a lot about the perils of censorship and cancel culture on our show, and now they’re succumbing to the crowd.’
Athey is now urging conservatives to utilise the same tactics that liberals used to fire her, and to flood Cumulus and WMAL with tweets to “let them know what you think of their weak decision-making.”
