Harry Styles’ return single has gotten more attention than ex-bandmate Liam Payne’s perplexing new accent.

As It Was, which was released yesterday, contains Harry referring to actress girlfriend Olivia Wilde, hints at his recreational drug usage, and a video that has triggered a boom in sales of men’s jumpsuits.

The former One Direction member, whose third solo album Harry’s House is due out on May 20, thinks the album will cement his status as one of the world’s best performers — and if the hype is any indication, he may well succeed.

It’s wonderful to see Harry, 28, speak out about his personal life after being the subject of ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s lyrics.

With the opening lyric, he sings about facing challenges: “Holding me back, gravity’s holding me back.”

When he sings, “Leave America, two kids follow her, I don’t want to speak about who’s doin’ it first,” he’s referring to his connection with US film director Olivia, 38, who has two children from a previous relationship and has spent time with Harry in the UK.

Fans at first mistook a youthful voice shouting out, “Come on, Harry. We want to say goodnight to you,” maybe one of Olivia’s children, but Harry confirmed it was his goddaughter yesterday.

The artist previously admitted using drugs when making his second album, Fine Line, so fans may not be surprised that he has brought it up again, singing: “Answer the phone/Harry, you’re no good alone/Why are you sitting at home on the floor?/What sort of pills are you on?”

The video for ‘As It Was’ has gotten a lot of attention and has made fans go crazy since the heartthrob appears in only his boxers.
