Michigan Republicans supported two Trump-sponsored candidates on Saturday who refute the former president’s baseless assertions that the 2020 election was stolen. Kristina Karamo has been approved as the party’s candidate for Michigan secretary of state, while Matthew DePerno has been backed as the party’s candidate for state attorney general.
In order to overturn Saturday’s decisions, it would require 75 percent of the delegates to do so at the second party convention in August.
According to the Associated Press, Karamo promised attendees at the Michigan GOP state convention on Saturday that he would “not let you down.” “I’m fighting for the people of Michigan irrespective of political affiliation.”
At the convention on Saturday, more than 2,500 state Republican activists were in attendance, where nominations are made. Candidates for the state supreme court, attorney general, secretary of state, the board of education and university board members don’t advance to the general election in Michigan based on their performance in the primary election. It is decided at the conventions of each political party.

Karamo gained a following after the 2020 presidential election, when she claimed to have witnessed fraudulent activity at a location in Detroit. Karamo made several cable news appearances where she made unfounded claims about widespread fraud.
Donald Trump congratulated DePerno and Karamo after Saturday’s convention. Trump has endorsed both candidates.
According to former President Barack Obama, “they will go on to big victories for Attorney General and Secretary of State. “I will back them strongly.”
