Officially, Russia’s Moskva missile cruiser has sunk in the Black Sea in southern Ukraine. It’s unclear whether Ukrainian weapons struck the ship.
The ship was on route to Sevastopol, Crimea, when it went down.
Russia has previously claimed damage from an ammunition fire on board. The crew was rescued. Then came rumours that Russia was dragging its ships farther out to sea, maybe out of Ukrainian missile range.
The Moskva sunk while being towed. Russia only possesses three of these flagship warships, each with a crew of about 500.
Ironically, the destruction of the Russian vessel Moskva in the Black Sea comes only days after Ukraine published a stamp commemorating the memorable exchange between Russian and Ukrainian soldiers on Snake Island.
Ukraine’s postal agency stated Tuesday that it has published a postage stamp depicting a resolute Ukrainian soldier in front of a Russian cruiser.
Roman Hrybov, the Ukrainian soldier who screamed “Russian warship, go fuck yourselves,” was invited to the stamp’s presentation event, the military stated in a statement.
A Ukrainian presidential advisor revealed on Thursday that the Moskva was one of the boats participating in the February exchange between Russian forces and Snake Island defenders.
