Punches thrown between NASCAR drivers while racing, watch video
During the NASCAR Xfinity Series race in Martinsville, fists flew on pit row. After Friday night’s race, rivals Sam Mayer and Ty Gibbs, the grandson of Super Bowl-winning coach and NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs, got into a brawl.
Gibbs led for the duration of the race, but on the penultimate turn, he was passed by Brandon Jones. In an attempt to recover the lead and drive around Jones, he collided with Mayer, who rear-ended Gibbs’ car.

In the video, the 19-year-old Gibbs can be visibly seen unhappy, and things escalated after they both parked on pit row.
Gibbs instantly got in Mayer’s face, and the two yelled at each other before shoving and swinging at each other. Gibbs unleashed punches and grabbed Mayer’s unhelmeted head.
Mayer took Gibbs to the ground as he was still wearing his racing helmet, causing a large pile of both driver’s pit workers and NASCAR officials before being separated.
Gibbs retorted on Fox Sports by saying, “I tried to talk to him and he got all in my face and at that point, we’ve got to start fighting.”
“We got put in a bad position there. The only thing I’m mad about is (Mayer) didn’t have anything. He wasn’t going to get past (third-place finisher A.J. Allmendinger) and I just got hit in the left rear,” he added.
