The US administration sanctioned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s daughters on Wednesday over Moscow’s “atrocities in Ukraine.” Little is known publicly about them.

Katerina Tikhonova, a “tech executive whose work helps… the Russian defence sector,” and Maria Vorontsova, who directs state-funded genetics research programmes “directly controlled by Putin,” according to the US Treasury.

According to a senior US official, “Putin’s riches are concealed with family members.”

Putin’s daughter Maria was born in 1985, according to Putin’s official biography on the Kremlin’s website, before the family went to Dresden, where Putin worked as a KGB operative.

Katerina, a second daughter, was born the next year in Dresden. The women’s only known photo depicts them as tiny kids with blond braided bows.

Putin has revealed that his daughters earned their university education in Russia, know numerous European languages, and reside in Russia in rare statements throughout the years. Putin has grandkids as well.

Beyond that, nothing is known officially since the Kremlin has kept Putin’s personal life hidden from the public eye.

According to Russian media sources, Vorontsova is an endocrinologist with links to the government who works for a significant medical research organisation focusing on cancer treatment.

Tikhonova is a mathematician who heads a research and technology organisation linked with Russia’s top public university, according to Russian media.

According to those claims, Tikhonova is also a skilled acrobatic rock and roll dancer who has competed in important international contests.

Tikhonova, dressed in glistening fitting costumes, may be seen stepping onto her partner’s hands and being propelled into the air for flips and somersaults in videos from those games.

Putin refused to openly answer a question regarding his daughters’ rising commercial clout and links to the government during a news conference in 2019, never addressing Vorontsova and Tikhonova as his offspring and referred to them merely as “ladies.”

“I am pleased with them. They continue to work and study “Putin stated something similar during a news conference a few years ago.

“They are not in the economic world, and they are not interested in politics. They’re not attempting to force their way into anything “Added he.

Putin stated in a 2020 interview that he does not want to divulge details about his family due to “security reasons.”

He stated that he had grandkids, but did not specify how many.

“I am content because I have grandchildren. They’re delicious and sweet. Spending time with them is one of my favourite things to do.”
