SC adjourns hearing of suo motu case about dismissal of no-confidence motion till Thursday

The Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday adjourned the hearing into the suo motu case about the dismissal of a no-confidence motion in the National Assembly till Thursday (tomorrow).

A five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial is hearing the case.

Meanwhile, Journalists covering the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s proceedings on the Deputy Speaker’s controversial ruling on the no-confidence motion boycotted the press conference of former information minister Fawad Chaudhry over his brash response to a question.

In response to a question from senior journalist Matiullah Jan, an enraged Chaudhry in a hostile manner called him ‘a hired gun’ – the response prompted condemnation from the on-field reporters.

Despite multiple insistence from the journalists to either answer the question or apologies to Jan over his uncalled for comments, Chaudhry retorted to personal attacks on the integrity of other journalists.

He alleged that the journalists covering the pressers are paid and working on an agenda.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Asad Umar and Ali Muhammad Khan tried to diffuse the situation, however, to no avail as Chaudhry stood with his questionable remarks. In reaction to Chaudhry’s demeanor, the journalists took off mics and cameras, and maintained that no coverage will be given to him until he apologises.

The senior court reporters associated with multiple news and digital channels have called a high-level huddle to discuss the next line of action on the former information minister’s remarks.

Chaudhry has previously remained in news for his physical assault and crass language against journalists. However, to the utter surprise of many, the PTI and Prime Minister Imran Khan despite their claims for standing with the freedom of the press never took any action or reprimanded him for his actions.
