US announces $5m bounty for capture of Kinahan gang leaders

If you have any information that leads to the arrest or conviction of Kinahan criminal lords, you’ll get $5 million (£3.8 million).

There will be a reward for information leading to “the financial disruption or arrest or conviction” of Daniel Kinahan, his father Christopher Snr and brother Christopher Jnr, US Ambassador to Ireland Claire Cronin said in Dublin after the US government unveiled tough Russia-style sanctions against the gang.

Mr. Biden and the US government have said that dealing with the Kinahans is a “urgent priority,” according to Cronin.

One of the world’s most powerful criminal syndicates has been put out of business by the United States’ extraordinary involvement in the drug and guns trafficking business.

US Treasury Department official Gregory Gatjanis stated, “Today, the Kinihans join the ranks of the Camorra [Italian mafia organisation] and Japan’s Yakuza,” which had already announced penalties.

This was a “big blow” to the Kinahan family, according to Matt Horne, a British NCA officer who was part of a multinational investigation.

“Our goal is to put an end to their illicit operations, but they believed they were above detection. We’re not done yet, however.”

This means that Kinahans money or assets in the United States or in American banks may be frozen, as well as any properties in the United States held by the Kinahans.

As a result, their bank accounts and flights to the United States may be frozen.

Sanctions also apply to associates Sean McGovern, Ian Dixon, and Bernard Clancy, who are all located in Dubai, as well as John Morrissey, who is based in Spain, in addition to the three senior Kinahans.

In addition to the UAE-based firms Hoopoe Sports and Ducashew General Trading, Nero Drinks, which is located in Glasgow and makes Nero Vodka, has been granted a licence to participate.
US authorities claim John Morrissey is in charge of Nero Drinks and has “gave a large piece of the company to Daniel Kinahan in compensation for shipments of cocaine confiscated by law enforcement.”

A rival Hutch gang masquerading as police tried to assassinate him at the Regency Hotel in Ireland in 2016, murdering one accomplice in the process.

The dispute between the two gangs has resulted in the deaths of at least 18 individuals.
Daniel Kinahan resides in Dubai and has worked with Tyson Fury to rebrand himself as a boxing promoter in the last several years.

Fury has never been accused of any criminal activity.

Thomas “Bomber” Kavanagh, the Kinahans’ “top man” in the UK, was sentenced to 21 years in prison at Ipswich Crown Court two weeks ago.

In the words of the National Crime Agency (NCA), he masterminded a “commercial-scale” smuggling operation that brought in cocaine and cannabis worth more than £30 million.

Gary Vickery and Daniel Canning were the other two individuals sentenced to long jail sentences.
