Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones, has recently opened out about the internal struggle she went through while portraying her character on the show.
Williams revealed in an interview with British GQ that she was young when she first started playing Arya but matured into a lady as the seasons went.
“I suppose I resented Arya when I first started becoming a woman because I couldn’t articulate who I was becoming,” she told the tabloid.
The 24-year-old also revealed that portraying her persona as a fiery tomboy was becoming tough because her body was not in line with what the public wanted to see.
“I also disliked my body because it wasn’t connected with the component of me that the world appreciated,” she said, referring to the difficulties she was experiencing.
When questioned about her experience, Williams implied that she didn’t miss her character and said, “Can I say none of it?”
“I don’t think it’s healthy [to miss it], because I liked it,” she added to her remark.
Despite her dislike for the character, the actress expressed her joy at being a part of something so monumental.
“I have such good memories of it, and I am so proud of it.” But why would I want to be sad about the best thing that has ever occurred to me? She stated, “I don’t want to equate that with sentiments of pain.”
