After suffering penalties due to an engine change, Fernando Alonso will start his home Spanish Grand Prix from the back of the grid on Sunday.
On Saturday, the two-time former world champion qualified 17th in his Alpine, but a fourth power unit of the season and the consequent penalties totaling over 15 grid spots have sent him to the bottom of the field.
As a consequence, Lance Stroll, Alex Albon, and Nicholas Latifi have all gained a position on the grid at the Montmelo track outside of Barcelona.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won pole ahead of Red Bull’s world champion Max Verstappen.
Going into the sixth round of the 2022 season, Leclerc leads Verstappen by 19 points.
