Biden rejoices as 78,000 pounds of infant formula is transported to the United States.

Over 70,000 pounds of infant formula was flown in from Europe to Indianapolis, Indiana, on Sunday.

“Folks, I’m thrilled to report that the first aircraft from Operation Fly Formula is filled with over 70,000 pounds of newborn formula and is about to land in Indiana,” President Biden tweeted on Sunday. “Our staff is working around the clock to ensure that everyone who requires safe formula receives it.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre informed reporters onboard Air Force One as President Joe Biden flew from South Korea to Japan that the 78,000-pound formula was being transferred by a military jet.

The consignment was the first of many formula flights from Europe that Biden had cleared for delivery to the United States. On Sunday, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack visited Indianapolis to welcome the infant formula to the United States.

132 pallets of Nestlé Health Science Alfamino Infant and Alfamino Junior formula were to depart Ramstein Air Base in Germany for the United States, according to the White House. In the following days, another 114 pallets of Gerber Good Start Extensive HA formula were planned to arrive.

“Operation Fly Formula” was launched after Biden used the Defense Supply Act to speed up the production of infant formula following nationwide shortages.

The scarcity impacted the United States as a result of pandemic-related supply chain concerns, which were exacerbated when major infant formula maker Abbott Laboratories halted a factory and recalled several products following an FDA investigation.
