Several fires in Colorado Springs have caused evacuations and closed roads. A shelter-in-place order was issued at the Colorado Springs Airport on Thursday while a grass fire blazed nearby. All inbound operations have been halted, and all departure flights have been canceled. “We’d like to thank everyone for their continuing patience throughout this challenging time,” the airport said in a tweet.
According to the El Paso County Facebook page, evacuation orders for the adjacent Alturas Fire were subsequently canceled. The almost 200-acre fire has been declared out.
Evacuation orders for the Akerman Fire in the Stetson Hills and Anna Lee areas have also been rescinded.
According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, the fire was completely contained after burning 30 acres.
According to the Gazette, a man was arrested on charges of igniting woods or prairie after investigators discovered that the fire was started by a private fire pit.
The fire was declared out on Friday, according to the publication.
The High Park Fire in Teller County was 0 percent controlled and had expanded to nearly 400 acres, according to the sheriff’s office.
There were no structural damages, and more than 100 individuals were evacuated.
All of this comes after officials said that wind and vented propane tanks contributed to the development of a fire that burned eight mobile homes at the Skylark Mobile Home Park. Firefighters arrived on the site to see flames leaping up to 50 feet.
There were no reported injuries, and officials have not identified what sparked the incident. This year, nine big fires have burnt 352,468 acres in five states, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
