In the same posh Queens area, a delivery guy was shot and died.

A deliveryman in New York City was shot and killed at a stoplight in the same wealthy Queens neighborhood where Orsolya Gaal’s body was discovered packed in a duffel bag last month.

Though unrelated, the event on Saturday evening shook the once-seen-as-safe Forest Hills neighborhood, which has been plagued by increased crime.

Around 9:30 p.m., Zhiwen Yan, a 45-year-old deliveryman for the local Chinese restaurant Great Wall, was sitting on his scooter at a crossroads when a man came on foot and fired multiple bullets, according to police. There were no arrests made right away.

Yan, who was originally from Fuzhou in eastern China, had worked at the Queens restaurant for more than a decade and was the primary income for his wife and three children, ages two, twelve, and fourteen, according to family members and his devastated widow. Investigators are attempting to ascertain if the shooting was the result of a random act of road rage or was motivated by anything else, such as his Asian ancestry.

The event occurs just weeks after Gaal was brutally murdered nearby.

In one instance, the family handyman, David Bonola, with whom Gaal had an adulterous affair for two years, is suspected of stabbing the mother of two to death while one of her boys was upstairs and her husband and other son were traveling on the West Coast, according to authorities.

In the area as a whole, crime has been on the rise. According to the New York Times, the number of robberies, shootings, and thefts in the 112th Precinct so far this year has increased by over 50% over the same period last year.

Yan’s slaying was the precinct’s second homicide in 2022, following a violence-free period since 2016.
